
The Boys’ Brigade, founded in Glasgow in 1883, was the first voluntary youth organisation. It is widely agreed that throughout our 117 year history, the need for our work has never been greater. “The value of the BB is such that the need to take hold of the current issues is of great importance”

THE METHODEach BB Company must be attached to a Church, although the movement is inter denominational. The four sections in a BB Company cater for Boys from Primary 1 until the age of 18. The BB uses a progressive, balanced award system, aimed at developing the spiritual, physical, educational, and social sides of a Boy's character. |

The main job of the Battalion is to provide support and encouragement for the BB companies in its area. The Paisley and District Battalion comprises 28 BB companies with 1,600 Boys and 280 leaders. The Battalion area roughly coincides with Renfrewshire District.
Our main areas of expenditure are activities, administration, wages and buildings. Our income of £11,500 comes from BB Company subscriptions, the sale of BB supplies, grants and from donations. BB Companies can ill afford the payment of Battalion subscriptions, since they are already paying heavy dues to National BB HQ (an average of approximately £500 per Company). Over the last 4 years our grant income has dropped by £3,500. Our administrator has been cut back to 15 hours per week and administrative costs have been minimised.
In short, our financial position is not good. In order to reduce financial pressure on companies and to develop the support which we provide for them, we urgently need to increase our donations!
Some years ago, in order to tackle our financial problem, and to make our work more effective, we launched a sponsorship appeal to local firms.

ACTIVITIES for Boys, complimentary to those provided by companies.
